Clinical Perspectives: Nasal Polyps

Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis (CRSwNP) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the nasal mucosa and paranasal sinuses that is associated with significant morbidity and reduced health-related quality of life. Approximately 2.1% of the United States (US) population is estimated to have chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS), and about 20–30% of those patients with CRS have nasal polyps. However, prevalence estimates for nasal polyps based on questionnaires may not represent an accurate estimate, since nasal endoscopy is required to make a reliable diagnosis.
